VE Day 75 Celebrations

Are you taking part in a socially distanced VE Day Street party?

Friday 8th May marks the 75th Anniversary of VE Day. This is a day to reflect on the enormous sacrifice, courage and determination of people from all walks of life who saw us through a dark and terrifying period.

Previously VE Day has been celebrated with street parties and social gatherings, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the UK being in lockdown, such activities are not possible this year.  However, we are being encouraged to still celebrate from indoors or in our own gardens.

It is set to be a weekend of celebrations with many communities co-ordinating dressing their houses in bunting and flags and where social distancing guidelines can be followed, some are organising front garden picnics, Here are some tips on how to organise your VE Day party  ve-vjday75

The weather forecast for Friday is looking good (at the moment) so why not get involved?

Despite the restrictions, VE Day celebrations will still go ahead. Organisers are asking people across the UK to join in a moment of reflection and Remembrance at 11am on Friday 8th May and pause for a Two Minute Silence.

We are also being encouraged to join in the ‘Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of WW2’ at 3pm, from the safety of own home by standing up and raising a glass of refreshment and undertake the following ‘Toast’ – “To those who gave so much, we thank you”

Are you planning on joining in the ‘sing-along following the Queens address? There’s a nationwide sing-along to wartime classic ‘We’ll Meet Again’ planned on Friday night – led by none other than Dame Vera Lynn herself!

Our teams are busy planning their activities and celebrations which we look forward to sharing with you, whatever you decide to do, remember to stay safe.
