International ESG Day: Our Commitment
On International ESG Day, we’re proud to highlight the combined impact of our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives. Guided by our mission to “enable people to be their best” and our ethos of “Empowering People,” we strive to create a positive difference for the planet and society while fostering ethical operations across our business.
Driving Environmental Change
Environmental responsibility is a cornerstone of our ESG strategy. We actively work to reduce our ecological footprint through initiatives like:
- ISO 14001 Certification: Developing a robust environmental management system to improve efficiency and environmental performance.
- Energy Efficiency: Installing energy-efficient lighting and transitioning to renewable energy suppliers.
- Sustainable Transportation: Introducing hybrid and electric vehicles through our EV Car Scheme and encouraging carpooling and cycling.
- Sustainable Procurement: Partnering with eco-conscious suppliers and reducing unnecessary printing.
Planting for the future
Through our partnership with GreenTheUK starting in 2022, we committed to planting 8000 climate-resilient trees to help restore UK woodlands, protect biodiversity and combat climate change. In partnership with the Royal Forestry Society, the right species of trees are planted in the right places to give the trees the best chances of survival against the threats of climate change. 4000 trees have already been planted in Northumberland, County Antrim and Berwickshire, and by the end of this year, we will have planted another 4000 trees. Through this campaign, we’re supporting local wildlife, helping to sequester carbon and improving each woodland’s resilience to pests, diseases and/or climate change. Empowering Communities
Our dedication to social sustainability ensures we positively impact the communities where we operate. This commitment is reflected in our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, focused on empowering individuals and addressing social challenges.
Supporting Charities in Yorkshire and Beyond
We partner with charities that align with our core values, focusing on empowering those less advantaged. Over the past year, we’ve supported numerous charities, including:
St Luke’s Hospice, Rotherham Holiday Aid, Leeds Children’s Hospital, The Archer Project, Rotherham Titans Community Fund, The Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals Health Charity, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, Sunnyside Supplies, Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Safe at Last, Paces Sheffield, Unity Boxing Centre CIC, Rotherham Hospice, The Thomas Bothamley Defibrillator Fund, Roundabout, Trussel Trust Maltby Foodbank, Endeavour, Rain Rescue, Cavendish Cancer Care, Grace Foodbank, Weymouth Centre, Trussel Trust Rotherham Foodbank, Sheffield S6 Foodbank.
Let’s explore some of the activities we carry out to support not only those charities based in Yorkshire but also those nationwide.
Annual Charity Golf Day
Our annual golf days, hosted in partnership with CSP Systems, have raised over £1,500 for local charities like Paces Sheffield, a centre supporting children with motor disorders. These events bring together local businesses to compete, fundraise, and strengthen community ties.
‘Be A Good Egg’ Easter Appeal
Each year, we collect Easter treats and essential items to support women’s shelters, children’s charities, and community organisations. This initiative highlights the generosity of our colleagues, clients, and workers while fostering a spirit of giving.
’50 for £50’ Food Bank Challenge
Through our walking challenge, colleagues raised £3,400 to support food banks across the UK. The initiative not only provided essential resources to families in need but also promoted team wellness and connection.
Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge
Our teams have raised over £10,000 for PHASE Worldwide by participating in this gruelling challenge. These funds support projects aimed at reducing poverty, particularly for vulnerable groups, both in the UK and internationally.
Looking Ahead
Our combined ESG efforts underscore a commitment to fostering environmental resilience, empowering communities, and operating ethically. Whether it’s planting trees, raising funds for essential causes, or reducing our carbon footprint, we are building a sustainable future for all.
On this International ESG Day, we celebrate the collective impact of our actions and reaffirm our dedication to making a difference – locally and globally. Together, we can achieve a nature-positive, inclusive, and thriving world.
